Fr. Pishoy Wasfy Biography
Fr. Pishoy Wasfy is an ordained Coptic Orthodox priest serving at the Church of Virgin Mary
& St. Athanasius in Mississauga, Ontario, since 2003. Fr. Pishoy Wasfy is a faculty member
at St. Paul Theological Seminary and was an adjunct faculty at the University of Toronto,
Trinity College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto,
a Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling, and a Ph.D. in Christian Counselling. Fr.
Pishoy's Ph.D. thesis focused on interracial relationships within Canada's immigrant
Coptic Church community. Currently, he is completing his Doctor of Counselling and
Psychotherapy (DCP) degree at Yorkville University, focusing on self-care implementation
in counselling and pastoral training.
Fr. Pishoy is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in Ontario and a member of the Canadian
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT). He co-founded Cornerstone Family
Counselling Services (CFCS) in the Peel Region, where he offers psychotherapy to a
multicultural clientele employing diverse therapeutic techniques. His counselling
approach integrates the values of the Christian Faith and psychotherapy principles as he
utilizes various therapeutic methods, such as Solution-Focused, Narrative, CognitiveBehavioural, Family Systems, and Experiential therapies. He has also completed an
externship in Emotional-Focused Couples Therapy.
Fr. Pishoy is actively engaged in community initiatives. He has contributed to the Train the
Trainer project in Peel, targeting the reduction of domestic violence in Arabic-speaking
households. He also facilitates "Prepare and Enrich" seminars, aiding couples in navigating
their relationships. His involvement with multicultural families and youth has led to
multiple speaking engagements in Canada and internationally, including at the FOCUS
Family Meeting at the Canadian Coptic Center in Mississauga.
Fr. Pishoy Wasfy's blend of pastoral guidance, academic credentials, counselling
experience, and commitment to community service positions him as a valuable
contributor to our seminary, offering students and colleagues a unique perspective and
experience.
